Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare access in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced that the state will soon implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This decision aims to extend affordable healthcare services to millions of residents, ensuring that economically vulnerable families receive quality medical care without financial strain.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), is a flagship initiative by the Indian government. Through this program, eligible families can receive up to ₹5 lakh per year for hospital treatment across a network of public and private hospitals. Odisha’s implementation of Ayushman Bharat will align with the state’s existing healthcare initiatives, bridging gaps and expanding coverage to even more citizens.
Healthcare Goals and State Integration
CM Majhi emphasized that Ayushman Bharat will work in conjunction with Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), Odisha’s primary health scheme. BSKY, introduced by the state government, offers health coverage to around 96 lakh families in Odisha, and this new integration aims to enhance healthcare options for people across the state.
In preparation, the state government is finalizing guidelines to streamline the Ayushman Bharat scheme’s rollout, focusing on rural areas and providing residents with updated information on hospital empanelment and the scheme’s benefits.
Addressing Healthcare Gaps and Expanding Accessibility
Odisha’s government is focusing on rural healthcare, aiming to overcome geographical and financial barriers. Majhi has directed officials to ensure that all eligible residents have easy access to registration processes and medical services under the scheme. This includes expanding infrastructure in rural and remote areas to accommodate increased patient care demand.
Looking Ahead
With this major healthcare initiative, Odisha continues its commitment to improving health outcomes and making healthcare more accessible and affordable for all residents. CM Majhi’s announcement has been welcomed as a vital step towards achieving healthcare equity and supporting low-income families across the state.
